Bridge Rd; is it a problem or not?
23Jan07
THERE is no traffic problem on Glebe's Bridge Rd according to the RTA and Port Jackson State Labor MP Sandra Nori.
After repeated requests, Ms Nori has confirmed that a $30,000 report promised in 2003 was completed and the RTA ``determined no further action was required''.
The report looked into heavy vehicle traffic on the road and Ms Nori said she raised the issue on behalf of residents in her role as local member.
Balmain Greens candidate Rochelle Porteous said Bridge Rd was an ongoing problem.
``The point is, compared to 2003, Bridge Rd is even more of an issue now. The community in the vicinity of Bridge Rd are continually complaining about the traffic and the danger,'' Ms Porteous said.
``What has she done . . . to lobby the RTA and get something done? As local member she should know it is a major issue for residents.''
Balmain Liberal candidate Peter Shmigel said he would conduct his own study and it would cost a lot less then $30,000 he would do it for free.
He said the State Government needed to release the original study so members of the community could see it for themselves.
``It cost $30,000 in taxpayer funds to do and the public deserves to see what they bought,'' he said.
Opposition roads minister Andrew Stoner has filed a Freedom of Information request for the study and City of Sydney Council is looking into it as well as the results of its own study.
